John Scherf
is a recording engineer, writer, and producer with more than twenty
years of experience in everything from live mixing for radio broadcast
to award-winning audiophile recordings on SuperAudio CD. His work
has been recognized nationally with more than 40 awards - including
the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's Gold Award for Technical
Achievement, the coveted Robert F. Kennedy Award for Journalism,
and nominations for the Grammy Award.
John has recorded
in studios and remote locations that range from Carnegie Hall to
the minefields of Cambodia. He now bases his work in his own
production studio in the hills west of River Falls, Wisconsin. Along the way he has
recorded artists including: Gerry Mulligan, the Modern Jazz Quartet,
Billy Taylor, Joe Pass, Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis, Bill
Crofoot, Pete Seeger, Trevor Pinnock and the English Consort, the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, The King's Singers, The
Swingle Singers, James Earl Jones, and Bobby McFerrin.
John
has produced, written, and provided technical direction for many
radio and television programs. He also provided special effects
mixing for National Public Radio's production of "Return of
the Jedi." He has written, produced, and directed pieces as
diverse as humorous spots for radio's "From the Top, "
"American Voices with James Earl Jones," and documentary
work including programs for "Continental Harmony" and
"For Kids' Sake Radio." His work as an album producer
and recording engineer has included a wide variety of jazz, classical,
and folk projects. For the past few years he has been recording
albums for release on Super Audio CD using both Sony and Pyramix
Direct Stream Digital systems and recording and mixing in a 5-1
environment.
